Cochlea Pune & “SWARANAAD” - Pre School for Young Born Deaf Children, An NGO Dedicated To The All Round Development of Young Born Deaf Children It is an Umbrella organization working for the benefit of Hearing Impaired persons. Screening, investigations, counseling, hearing aids, surgery, speech training, teachers’ training , parents’ training and pre-school upto the age of 6 years - all these activities are carried out under one roof. The only pre-school for hearing impaired children in Maharashtra. Teacher to Student ratio is 2:5 This pre-school is like any other kindergarten. The curriculum is planned in such a way that it fulfills the need for development of children in all fields. Trust Cochlea Pune for Hearing & Speech is established in August 1998 and working for the all round development of young born deaf children of age 0 to 6 years through following programs What we do - The institution imparts Speech training on confirmation of amount hearing loss through various Audiological assessments and introduces to sound on fitment appropriate hearing aid. - The children are trained for integration to normal school on attaining fair amount of Speech thereby paving a way for a better future otherwise the child would have grown up as a handicapped child a burden to the family, society and self as no good sources of enhancing the life style are available due to lack of Speech, Language and expression. All the new born babies should undergo a screening test before they leave the maternity center to confirm that the child has no inborn handicap at birth which is by default in most of the countries except few Afro Asian and undeveloped countries. On detection of Deafness the child should be fitted with a suitable hearing aid appropriate to the loss of hearing assessed. On fitment of hearing aid the child should be given introduction to sound which it has never heard The child to undergo hearing training in front of mother or any other available parent Once the child starts recognizing the sound it should be introduced to Speech On attaining Speech the child has to undergo development of Language at the Preschool for its all round development On attiring fairly good Speech & Language by the age of 6 years the child will be integrated to a normal school for future development & formal education 25 years of Journey Since 1998, Cochlea Pune, a registered charitable trust, is working in the field of Rehabilitation of Hearing Impaired members of our society. The focus of Cochlea is on born deaf children. The journey started with 1 child & 1 teacher. Today 50 teachers teach 250 children at 7 centers and One Pre-School

1. PROFILE OF THE ORGANISATION
Cochlea Pune for Hearing and Speech was established in the year 1998. The organisation is working for the all-round development of young born deaf children through following programmes

2. Parent Infant Programme
3. Preschool training
4. Workshops for Parents & Special Teachers.
The institution imparts Speech training on confirmation of amount of hearing loss through various Audiological assessments and introduces to sound on fitment appropriate hearing aid. The children are trained for integration to normal school on attaining fair amount of Speech thereby paving a way for a better future otherwise the child would have grown up as a handicapped child, a burden to the family, society and self as no good sources of enhancing the life style are available due to lack of Speech, Language and expression. For this purpose the institution runs 10 centers in Pune district.
Majority of the children who are on the rolls of the institution are from economically weaker section and they need financial as well as moral support for the fitment of a suitable hearing aid and other peripherals connected with the ear. The institution has plans to start such centers at every taluka place of Pune dist. and then to other parts of Maharashtra state.
Organisation also runs the DECSE (Diploma in Early childhood Special Education) training programme, recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India (Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment Govt. of India)

2. PROJECT DETAIL
After detection and intervention children with this inability, children need to be groomed for integration to normal school for the formal education in line with normal children. For this the children are taught and made to learn the basics of elementary school like learning alphabets numbers to writing sentences, adding to division in simple mathematics. The children also learn to read and recite along with development of Speech which is the most important in life for better communication with the society members. Continuous rehabilitation education training is given to teachers for upgrading their skills on regular basis. Mothers training program is also conducted for capacity building of mothers to support their children.
Capacity building of the overall Cochlea organization is taking place under the project in terms of fund raising, and MIS software updation. The organization has received ISO certification last year with the help of Concern India Foundation.
Awareness program and detection camps are major in mobilizing and reaching out to the differently able (hearing impaired children).
Previous year the project was run online due to COVID 19 pandemic. Currently 150 children are getting speech therapies and preschool education from 10 different centers of Cochlea. Every year 10-15 children get integrated to mainstream education and 40-50 new students get admitted through various centers. In this academic year if situation of pandemic does not resolve the school classes will be online in terms of one to one online therapy sessions.

8. To create more of such rehabilitation centers as almost 95% HI Children are awaiting in Pune district.

Cochlea Pune has now decided to expand its horizons by reaching out to max. no. of HI children from rural areas, by providing residential schooling facilities and thus overcoming the main challenges of travelling and staying in Pune

Pirangut Residential School for Hearing Impaired Children.
is a need HI children as in Pune city around 1440 children’s are awaiting for pre Schooling.
PROJECT DETAILS
The main aim of this project is to use successfully 4 - 6 years’ of crucial time span for these children in their lingual development by giving them a language- rich environment. This will enhance their overall development and well a motor skills.
The construction of a residential rehabilitation centre at Urawade village in Mulshi taluka of Pune is taking shape.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Objective
· To do complete children friendly Pirangut Residential School for Hearing Impaired Children
· To provide schooling facilities to hearing impaired children with their mothers, apart from regular and rigorous speech and language training.
· Mothers of these hearing-impaired children will be given speech & language training at the centre.
· Help mothers to start speech & language training rehabilitation centre at different places to help hearing impaired children in the remote areas.
Strategies &ACTIVITIES
• This residential rehabilitation centre will provide schooling facilities to HI children with their mothers with regular and rigorous speech and language training.
• Mothers of these HI children will be given speech & language training at the centre.
• So that mothers will start speech & language training rehabilitation centre at different places to help HI children in the remote areas.
Our current goal is to arrange residential schooling facility that would fulfil all the
necessary demands of Hearing-Impaired children and their mothers.
The hearing-impaired children would be made ready to be integrated into normal schools and consequently lead a normal life.
Students hailing from nearby villages can receive this preschool facility. Audio logical tests of children from the nearby villages will be conducted by our audiologists at the centre. Mothers of the children would be trained to teach hearing impaired children and empowered to financially support the family.
