Badhya Lama - The Super Woman of 2025 Transforming Lives in East Sikkim with Remarkable Impact

Her Journey

Apart from teaching, she tried her best to inculcate leadership qualities and boost the confidence of her students. With the help of AIDS cell, Health Department she started with Red Ribbon Club in Pangthang Junior High school in 2009 to spread awareness among children and guardians about communicable diseases. She also wrote school song and produced a music video for the same.

In Bhojoghari SSS she worked many projects Drink boiled Water Project, Pencil Project and Take a Jacket Project with the help of her students, family and friends. She was able to distribute stationeries, sweaters and jackets to underprivileged children and locals of Bhojoghari area. Other activities include taking students to Visit to Old Age home, Orphanage and painting of Shiva mandir.

She was diagnosed with clinical depression in 2018. She went through all the phases of denial anger isolation and finally acceptance. In mid 2022, she thought "I shouldn't let a disease define me". It took her a while to get back to being 'normal'. It was the same year she wrote a school song for Government Senior Secondary school, Sichey. Every day was a struggle but from 2022, she slowly pulled herself together. She gave thanks to the unwavering support of doctors, family and friends.

I joined the Education Department of the Government of Sikkim on February 2, 2001, as a GT Arts teacher. In 2013, I was promoted to Post Graduate Teacher. As for my educational background, I hold a BA (Hons.) in Political Science from Indraprastha College, Delhi University, and I completed my Post Graduation in English and B.Ed. through IGNOU. With over two decades of experience, my professional journey has been rich with teaching, mentoring, and taking on various administrative roles in the education sector.

Journey

Her journey as an educator kicked off in 2001 when she stepped into the Education Department as a Graduate Teacher (GT) in Arts. By 2013, her unwavering dedication and love for teaching had propelled her to the role of Post Graduate Teacher (PGT). But she didn’t stop there; she actively sought ways to nurture leadership skills in her students. In 2009, understanding the critical need for health education, she teamed up with the AIDS Cell and Health Department to launch the Red Ribbon Club at Pangthang Junior High School. This initiative allowed her to raise awareness about communicable diseases among both students and their families.

Her journey also involves spearheading various humanitarian initiatives at Bhojoghari Senior Secondary School (SSS), including the Drink Boiled Water Project, the Pencil Project, and the Take a Jacket Project. With the support of students, friends, and family, these initiatives have played a crucial role in providing essential supplies to those in need and fostering the overall development of her students.
