She has also received a Super Woman 2025 title for Forever Star India in the Advocate category.
Mita Banerjee was born and brought up in Kolkata, where she exhibited a powerful combination of intelligence, compassion and a spirited sense of justice from an early age. She was academically brilliant and was awed with legal studies from an early age. It was even notable when at 11 years of age, she took the Anti-drug Oath at Fort William under Rotary International which laid the foundation for a lifetime of service to the community and devoted service to activism.
Mita was educated at Kamala Chatterjee School and Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College where she excelled in academics and various extra-curricular activities. She was widely renowned for her awards and accolades in debate competitions as well as various cultural competitions. Eventually, she went on to pursue her legal studies at Utkal University. Mita then complemented her legal studies with a diploma in psychotherapy and a certificate in business management. She was able to view law, psychology and administration from a multi-dimensional perspective.
Her commitment to social activism—including rights for marginalized populations such as transgender individuals, sex workers, and animals—has been nothing short of phenomenal. She has dug water wells in villages, hosted legal literacy workshops in Naxal-infested areas, and performed final rites for unidentified deceased persons using her personal funds.
Mita has received several accolades on the national level including the Nation Pride Award, the Rajiv Gandhi Icon Award, India's Iron Lady, the Global Peace Award, and the Top 100 Influential Indians 2022 award. To champion legal causes that create social impact, she has become an exemplary symbol for others to aspire to, making her a legitimate beacon of motivation.

Mita Banerjee has traveled a path filled with challenges, resilience, and a strong sense of duty over the years since her bright student days in Kolkata to become one of the most transformational advocates in India. From performing courtroom plays in her father's coat to conducting debates in college, Mita's passion for law was never in question.
After graduating from Utkal University with a law degree, she furthered her qualifications with psychotherapy and business management skills to understand the psychological and systemic dimensions of crime and legal justice.
Her journey into the profession began when Mita joined the Calcutta Bar Library Club. Initially met with ostracism, prejudice, and resistance, she dispensed with barriers through grit and determination. Supported by her father's and husband's unwavering love and financial support allowed her to continue.
One transformative experience was when Mita assisted an elderly blind woman to receive medical treatment—aided by her father. This provided Mita with a deeper conviction of obligation to the underclass. Her journey slowly transformed into a crusade towards social justice—whether it be clarifying legal rights in tribal villages or personally standing up to bury unknown bodies with dignity.
