Swetal began her career in healthcare simply wanting to serve and care for people. Growing up in a joint family in Ahmedabad, she saw early on the importance of technical and emotional aspects of service, compassion, discipline, and responsibility, she embraced these as the foundation of her nursing career.
Her experiences while training at Civil Hospital made her aware of the critical role nurses play in patient recovery and system efficiency. As she transitioned to oncology nursing, she developed an understanding of the emotional and psychological dimensions of patient care and learned how to navigate the complexities of medical conditions with empathy.
It was this period that led her to appreciate the value of education and potential for professional development to raise the standard of care. She made the brave decision to teach, as she believed this would honour her value system, mentoring the next generation of nurses, and have a compounding effect on the service she was providing. In her nine-plus years as a teacher, she successfully taught and mentored literally hundreds of students and supported them on their way to being competent, ethical, and confident nurses.
Despite the workload of her former roles of mother and wife, Swetal continued to grow in her professional development journey. She recently began studying for her Ph.D., which is reflective of her deep-seated desire to research nursing and explore new innovations in community health.
