Professor Ina Shastri is currently Pro Vice-Chancellor of Banasthali Vidyapith and discharging the duties as a key Executive & Academic Officer of the University. Prof. Shastri received her M.A. (Music) and M.Ed. degrees from Banasthali Vidyapith before completing Ph.D. under joint supervision of Prof. Uday Pareek and Prof. Bala Sahab Poonchwale. Her research interests include Music Education, Psychology of Music, Aesthetics of Music, Marketing & Music, Physics & Music. She has published around 50 National and International research papers and authored 13 books, she has carried out a number of research projects for various agencies, some of them include only of its kind efforts to resurrect old folk instruments, therapeutical applications of music for wellbeing and coping with stress and linking music with diverse other fields, just to name a few. She has supervised 45 Ph.D. thesis and 10 students are currently enrolled under her supervision. She has been awarded Best Citizen of India Gold Medal Award or Excellence in her field and Individual Achievement & National Development 26 January, 2017. The Best Academic Award of innovative research and promoting scientific temper in India in 2009. Bharat Jyoti Award in August, 2018, Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Award January 2019, Glory of India Gold Medal May 2019, Mahatma Gandhi Lifetime Achievement Award May 2019 and many more.She has a versatile personality. She commanded the NCC contingent at the Republic Day parade in 1986 and was adjudged the all rounder best cadet in India and won many gold medals including those for shooting. She has also won gold medals for music & Dance at Inter University Youth Festivals sponsored by the Association of Indian Universities. Prof. Shastri strongly believes that both women and men have to participate on an equal footing in the development of society and that women can no longer be confined to domestic front. She started a small unit for khadi production where the women were initially trained to operate the mechanical looms and today women from virtually every family of nearby villages have joined it where they weave khadi fabric and earn decent livelihood. Not only this, their kids also get subsidized schooling. These women are enrolled in community college of the university to impart them vocational training in clothing & designing. In her efforts to advance the social development of rural women, Ina Shastri has established Radio Banasthali 90.4 FM at university campus which is the first community radio of Rajasthan state. It has become a beacon of social empowerment for the rural women folk engaging them in programmes of social relevance. Of late, she is spending much of her time and energy for the overall development of Banasthali as its ‘Conscious Keeper’. She is the key proponent in preserving, promoting and implementing the comprehensive Educational ideology of the Vidyapith and spearheads aesthetic development of 15,000 students every to. Under her leadership Vidyapith has won several national and international laurels and has emerged as an undisputed Champion in Music and Dance in the country for more than a decade.
